Anaemia

Welcome

This site contains loads of useful information on Anaemia. Hopefully through the resources that I've gathered on this site, you will be able to find something of interest. This site is no substitute though for professional medical advice.

Anaemia is the general name for a variety of red blood disorders. If the body is deficient in vitamin B12, iron, or folic acid, then Anaemia will develop. These are essential to produce healthy blood cells.

Dependant upon which nutrient the body is deficient in, will determine the type of Anaemia the patient is suffering from.

A lack of folic acid will lead to Megaloblastic Anaemia, a lack of Iron which is the most common form of Anaemia will lead to Iron Deficiency Anaemia. Pernicious Anaemia is caused by the body being unable to absorb enough vitamin B12.

Another type of Anaemia is Haemolytic Anaemia which is an inherited condition where the body destroys it's red blood cells prematurely.

The final type of Anaemia, is Aplastic Anaemia which is where the patients bone marrow can't produce enough red blood cells.

Depending upon which type of Anaemia you are suffering from, will determine the type of treatment that you will need.

If you want to read more, then have a look through my site and hopefully you will find more information on what Anaemia is, the cause of Anaemia and how how Anaemia is treated.
